In an AR 15 or AR308, the buffer is held under a pre-load spring tension inside the buffer tube. What holds this together inside the buffer tube when you are assembling or disassembling your AR is the buffer retainer detent( or pin).
This pin is machined from steel in house at Phoenix Weaponry and black oxide coated for long life and durability. This buffer retainer will fit most AR 15 and AR .308 lower receivers on the market.
